MCA and MIC’s decision to not contest in the upcoming state elections will not affect their allegiance to the coalition government, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The Pakatan Harapan chairperson said the presidents of both the BN component parties have informed him of their unwavering support to defend his administration.
“They informed me and said that they will skip (the state elections) at this point but will offer support…
“I thank them for their loyalty to help and remain steadfast to defend the coalition government’s position,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Yesterday, the two BN component parties said they were prepared to assist candidates from their coalition.
MCA, in a statement, said the party will be putting more emphasis on its preparation for the 16th general election.
Meanwhile, MIC secretary-general RT Raja, in a statement, also concurred with MCA’s stand, saying the party’s central working committee made a unanimous decision not to participate in the polls.
