Promoting multiracial Malaysia against constitution, says Dr M

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has argued that promoting a multiracial Malaysia runs foul of the Federal Constitution.

In his latest social media posting, the former premier again raised an issue close to his heart - the perceived danger of DAP to the Malays and Islam.

Although numerous quarters had censured the nonagenarian over his divisive politics, including his former protege and Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, Mahathir zeroed in on Bukit Gelugor Umno information chief Huzaidi Hussin’s criticism of him.

Mahathir, who turns 98 this month, said he was merely voicing the contents of the constitution.

“The current government claims Malaysia is a democratic nation. There is apparently freedom of expression... Is it against the law to defend the Federal Constitution?” he asked.

“On the contrary, it is against the constitution to promote a multiracial nation. Is the government rejecting the rule of law, including the constitution, which does not mention Malaysia as a multiracial country but instead emphasises the ‘Malayness’ of Malaysia?” he added.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

Shifting his focus to DAP, the former premier claimed that it is holding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ransom with its numbers.

“Yes. DAP only has four ministers. But it has 40 members in government (the number of MPs). If DAP withdraws its support, Anwar’s government will fall.

“Therefore, Anwar has to adhere to DAP’s manifesto, especially on making Tanah Melayu a multiracial country and replacing the official religion of Islam with a secular country... (turning) Malaysia into a nation with no official religion.

“With this, Malaysia will lose its membership in the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC),” he added.

Mahathir’s latest remarks come hot on the heels of his allegation that non-Malays are seeking to change Malaysia’s “name and ownership”.

In a lengthy diatribe then, the former Langkawi MP alleged that people from “other countries” are behind this attempt.

He further claimed that these people refused to recognise the Malays as the founders, locals and builders of the nation. - Mkini
