Sabah, Sarawak promised to back unity govt after polls - Umno man

Leaders of political parties from Sabah and Sarawak have promised not to oust the present federal government after the upcoming six-state elections on Aug 12.

Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii said this commitment was made by Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor during the unity government leadership council meeting in Kuala Lumpur last night.

"Last night, we decided that our theme for the upcoming state elections is 'Unity for stability and prosperity'.

"The Sarawak premier and Sabah chief minister promised there will be no change of government, regardless of the results of the elections.

"Based on the political mathematics of today, (a change of government) cannot happen based on the commitments made by those two leaders," Razlan told Malaysiakini.

Razlan is currently the political secretary to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In view of the commitments made by Abang Johari and Hajiji, Razlan urged Perikatan Nasional to cease spreading rumours that there will be a change of federal government soon.

On June 24, Selangor PN chief Azmin Ali alleged that if his coalition wins the upcoming Selangor election, then the Anwar Ibrahim federal administration's fall would soon follow. - Mkini
