Selangor MCA is waiting for a response from the BN leadership on a submitted request to contest five state assembly seats, according to its state chief Ng Chok Sin.
Malay daily Sinar Harian quoted Ng as saying today that Selangor MCA had requested to contest in the party's "traditional seats" in the upcoming state elections.
"We have gone through it (discussions) and given a list (of seats) to the party leadership for us to contest in the state elections.
"But, until today, we have yet to be informed on the seats that will be allocated to us," Ng (above) said.
Ng said Selangor MCA had submitted a list of five seats, including Sungai Pelek, Kuala Kubu Baru and Rawang.
In the 2018 general election, BN contested all 56 state seats, of which MCA was allocated 14 seats - all were lost to Pakatan Harapan components PKR or DAP.
The upcoming state elections will be the first time BN is contesting alongside Harapan.
A status quo situation will see neither MCA nor MIC being allocated any seats in Selangor, while Umno has four incumbents.
On June 27, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said both MCA and MIC would be allocated seats to contest in the state polls, with the final seat distribution decided based on suitability and winnability.
The Umno president's remarks were made a day after Selangor MIC chief MB Raja claimed that the party would be allocated an undetermined number of seats to contest, but this was later disputed by MIC deputy president M Saravanan.
Meanwhile, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan today said BN component parties must accept any final decision made for seat allocations in all six states.
The Malay Mail quoted Mohamad as saying that the decision would be made by BN and Harapan presidential councils, expected to be announced by this week.
The Election Commission has announced that it would meet on Wednesday to discuss the important dates after receiving notices on dissolutions of the six state assemblies. - Mkini
