Tuan Ibrahim: Nik Abduh declined two seat offers

PAS central committee member Nik Mohammad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz declined offers to contest two seats in the upcoming state polls, according to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said Nik Abduh (above) does not mind not being fielded as a candidate and he will instead focus on managing a religious school.

“There are no issues arising from Nik Abduh not being fielded. In politics, there are many opportunities to contribute.

“We offered two seats but he declined. Nik Abduh said he was fine with not being fielded because that will allow him to focus on the religious school that he manages,” said Tuan Ibrahim.

He also dismissed suggestions that dropping Nik Abduh from the candidate line-up would effectively end the legacy of his late father and former PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

“We can continue his legacy through our party struggle. It doesn’t have to be about candidates,” Tuan Ibrahim told reporters in Kota Bharu last night.

Rising star

Perikatan Nasional will be fielding 23 fresh faces for the 45 seats in the upcoming Kelantan polls.

Nik Abduh, 53, was a rising star in PAS until he failed to win a seat in the party’s central committee in 2021. He was later co-opted into the committee.

Following this, the party did not field him for the parliamentary elections last November.

Two days ago, Malaysiakini reported that Nik Abduh was offered the Kota Lama and Kijang seats but declined as he was only open to being fielded in Chempaka.

Chempaka was a seat held by Nik Aziz between 1995 and 2015. - Mkini
