PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) recorded a 90% voter turnout at today’s early voting for the Pulai by-election.
In a statement, EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said polling centres opened at 8am today and 831 police personnel had cast their ballots for the Pulai parliamentary seat.
The general public will head to the polls on Sept 9 to vote in the by-elections for Pulai as well as the Simpang Jeram state seat, both in Johor.
The two seats were left vacant following the death of Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.
Both seats will witness a three-cornered fight come Saturday, with Pakatan Harapan’s Suhaizan Kaiat, Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar and independent Samsudin Fauzi vying for Pulai.
Meanwhile, in Simpang Jeram, the contenders are PH candidate Nazri Abdul Rahman, PN’s Dr Mazri Yahya and independent S Jeganathan.
There are 166,653 eligible voters in Pulai and 40,379 in Simpang Jeram. - FMT
