CIDB to tackle unsatisfactory interior design issue - minister

The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has been instructed to hold a special programme for construction players to tackle the issue of unsatisfactory residential interior design works.

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said this is following complaints about inferior works done by contractors as well complaints about unregistered contractors, among others.

“I have instructed CIDB and they have agreed to organise a programme involving industry players including contractors and others.

“I have also directed the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) and relevant parties to discuss this matter so that we can address the complaints that we received,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating CIDB’s Occupational Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality Day in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

On the MyJalan campaign launched on Aug 24, Nanta said 2,201 road damage complaints were received, of which 1,086 have been screened.

“Of the 1,086 that have been screened, 288 complaints involved federal and state roads of which 166 are undergoing action and 122 have been repaired.

“The remaining 798 complaints are outside the ministry’s jurisdiction, meaning the roads are under local government authorities… we assist in informing the relevant authorities,” he said.

Earlier, Nanta said 2,206 government and private construction projects have been evaluated using the Quality Assessment System for Building Construction Works (Qlassic) between 2016 and 2022.

He added that 84 projects managed to achieve scores ranging from 85 to 100 percent.

According to him, the average marks increased last year compared to 2021, from 73 to 76 percent and the highest marks recorded up to 2022 was 90 percent.

“The Qlassic programme has been indicated as a compulsory assessment for all public and private housing projects through the National Housing Policy issued by the Local Government Development Ministry.

“The National Affordable Housing Policy issued by the same ministry has also mandated the Qlassic evaluation on all affordable housing projects across the country,” he said.

On the Safety and Health Assessment System in Construction, he said 1,200 projects were evaluated involving 946 private projects and 254 government projects for the same period.
