Govt agrees to enact Freedom of Information Act

 

The Prime Minister’s Office said the government hoped to improve the delivery of public services and encourage the people’s involvement in the policy-making process.

PETALING JAYA: The government has agreed in principle to enact a Freedom of Information Act, says the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

In a statement, the PMO said the Act will involve clear parameters and guidelines to grant members of the public access to obtain information from the government and other public agencies or companies.

It added that with this move, the government intended to improve the delivery of public services and encourage the people’s involvement in the policy-making process.

“In line with this decision, the Official Secrets Act (OSA) will also be amended accordingly,” it said.
