KLUANG: The transport ministry has approved temporary vehicle licences to increase the number of shuttle bus trips between Johor Bahru and Singapore for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections on Saturday.
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said this is to reduce congestion at the customs, immigration and quarantine complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building here and at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex in Iskandar Puteri following the school holiday season in Singapore.
More than 10 buses will operate from Singapore to Johor Bahru, he said after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the Kluang Heritage Railway Linear Park today.
Loke advised those wishing to return from Singapore to vote to use public transport and the additional bus services provided.
The Pulai parliamentary by-election will see a three-cornered fight among Pakatan Harapan’s Suhaizan Kaiat, Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar and independent candidate Samsudin Fauzi.
PH’s Nazri Abdul Rahman, PN’s Dr Mazri Yahya and independent S Jeganathan will contest for the Simpang Jeram state seat. - FMT
