KUALA LUMPUR: A heartfelt moment unfolded as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Billah Shah and Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah encountered a drenched crowd in Sabah who patiently waited in heavy rain to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.
A video shared by Istana Negara on Instagram captured the Queen, her eyes glistening with tears, expressing her gratitude to the crowd despite the inability to greet them personally.
"We feel really bad that people are waiting for us in the rain, but we cannot go down and greet them. My clothes were half wet as I wound down the window (to greet them).
"Thank you very much, husband (Al-Sultan Abdullah), and I will remember this for the rest of our lives.
"May Allah bless each and every one of you, and I pray that none would fall sick due to the long wait in the rain," said the Queen in the video.
This touching encounter between the royal couple and the rain-soaked crowd is a testament to their warmth and connection with the people.
The royal couple is on their Kembara Kembali Borneo Expedition tour, which commenced on Sept 3.
This expedition covers a distance of 2,154km along the Pan Borneo Highway, connecting Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei.
Joining the royal entourage are their children, Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah' Althiyatullah, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilisha Ameera, and Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilyana. - NST
