Umno disciplinary board today summoned Rembia assemblyperson Muhammad Jailani Khamis to explain his presence at a Perikatan Nasional (PN) event last month.
At the proceedings scheduled for 2.30pm, Jailani was also required to answer the show cause letter issued against him, but he skipped the meeting after claiming to have been warded at a hospital in Malacca due to ill health.
"I did not attend (proceedings). I'm in a ward, but I have provided a written explanation.
"I could not go as I was supposed to get warded yesterday morning due to health reasons. The doctor had been telling me to get admitted for some time, and this was my last warning (to get admitted)," he told Malaysiakini.
Jailani said that he had notified his absence via a note sent to the Umno headquarters today.
In the Aug 28 show cause letter issued by Umno disciplinary board chairperson Hafarizam Harun, Jailani was alleged to have deliberately sabotaged Umno by attending PN's candidate announcement on Aug 23 for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections.
Jailani defended his actions by saying he did not attend the PN function in his capacity as an Umno assemblyperson.
Instead, he said his presence was on behalf of the Muafakat Nasional NGO led by former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa.
It is worth noting that Jailani is also Malacca Muafakat Nasional chairperson. - Mkini
