A Perikatan Nasional lawmaker has questioned Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s sincerity in apologising over his remark on including non-Muslim experts in the special committee to review the jurisdiction of the syariah court.
According to former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan, it (the apology) is an “old tactic” of DAP’s, which has repeatedly happened and has become a norm.
“They (DAP) would throw incendiary remarks which can disrupt the country’s unity, and then retract and apologise for the remark without a care in the world.
“We condemn the lackadaisical attitude by (Prime Minister) Anwar (Ibrahim) and the Pakatan Harapan-BN government, which till today have yet to take any serious action against Ngeh and DAP,” Wan Saiful said in a statement issued in his capacity as the Bangi Bersatu chief.
Last week, Ngeh apologised and withdrew his proposal for the government to include non-Muslim experts in the special committee to review the jurisdiction of the syariah court.
Ngeh said his statement follows clarifications on the formation of the committee to advise the National Islamic Affairs Council chaired by Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The apology came after Sultan Sharafuddin reminded non-Muslims to respect and not interfere in matters related to Islam in the country.
In the statement, Wan Saiful, who is Tasek Gelugor MP, also urged Umno leaders to stop being “apologists” for DAP and campaign for the latter among Malay Muslims.
He also urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to act more sternly against those who deliberately touched on 3R-related issues (race, royalty, religion).
