Muhyiddin Yassin is in a "comfortable" position to continue leading Bersatu, the party's deputy president said.
According to Ahmad Faizal Azumu, the Bersatu supreme council meeting saw the leadership showing "solid support" for the former prime minister.
"Why are we entertaining rumours? I think his (Muhyiddin's) position as the president is very 'comfortable', and this would enable him to continue leading the party and Perikatan Nasional to greater heights," Faizal told Malaysiakini today.
Faizal (above) was earlier asked about rumours of an internal war between Muhyiddin's faction and secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin’s.
However, Hamzah recently announced that the party's supreme council had unanimously decided to continue the struggle under Muhyiddin's leadership.
Faizal said Muhyiddin is needed to lead Bersatu competently as an opposition party.
"PN and Bersatu's responsibilities as a worthy opposition will stand out more under Muhyiddin's leadership.
"Besides being a leader who cares for the people, Muhyiddin is also vastly experienced in administering the country," he added.
So far, six Bersatu MPs have pledged their backing for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, citing the well-being of their constituents.
They are Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Syed Abu Hussin Syed Abu Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
