No info on document for Najib to be held under house arrest – Saifuddin

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he has no information about a purported addendum added to the partial pardon granted to Najib Abdul Razak, which would allow the former premier to finish his sentence under house arrest.

“I only received an application from Najib seeking to spend the rest of his jail time under house arrest.

“And I have no information about this additional document,” he said at a press conference at the Home Ministry’s office in Putrajaya today.

Yesterday, Najib claimed that an addendum in a recent royal pardon allowed him to serve the remaining of his six-year jail term under house arrest.

The former finance minister made this claim in a judicial review leave application filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on April 1.

He was seeking a court order to compel the home minister, the attorney-general, the Pardons Board, Putrajaya, and a few other respondents to confirm this alleged addendum in the royal pardon that halved his initial 12-year jail sentence over the RM42 million SRC International corruption case.

‘I did not see addendum’

According to a copy of the judicial review bid, Najib claimed that the addendum was issued by the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 29.

Pressed on the matter, Saifuddin reiterated that he had never seen the purported addendum.

“No, no (addendum on Najib). I’m not a member of the Pardons Board. I don’t know.

“That’s why I mentioned that we will study the matter based on the information at hand,” he added.

On Feb 2, the Pardons Board announced that it has halved Najib’s jail time from 12 years to six.

This means Najib would be released from prison on Aug 23, 2028.

The board also slashed the fine imposed on Najib from RM210 million to RM50 million.
