PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional is gathering evidence for the filing of an election petition against Barisan Nasional’s victory in the Nenggiri by-election last Saturday.
Kelantan Bersatu chief Kamarudin Nor said the evidence involves allegations that BN both bribed and threatened voters during the two-week campaign period.
he said briefly to FMT.Yes, (we will file an election petition). Right now, we are gathering all the evidence,
Previously, PAS central committee member Annuar Musa claimed that more than 2,000 PN voters in Nenggiri did not go out to cast their ballots after being bribed with cash by certain parties.
The former Umno secretary-general had also claimed that federal government assets were misused throughout the by-election campaign.
In the by-election for the Kelantan state seat last Saturday, BN’s Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani reclaimed the Nenggiri seat for Umno with a majority of 3,352 votes.
This overturned BN’s loss by 810 votes to PN during the state assembly election last year.
BN had won the Nenggiri seat for four consecutive elections since the constituency was created in 2004, but PN breached the Umno stronghold during last year’s state polls. -FMT
