FIRDAUS Wong Wai Hung, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah Zamri Vinoth and Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak – probably four most vocal voices in the recent kuil haram (illegal temple) brouhaha – are being chastised for inaction over allegedly insulting remarks made against several companions of Prophet Muhammad.
The controversy arose after clips from a political ceramah involving PAS Ulama Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh in Kuala Terengganu over the weekend (May 10) Nik Zawawi went viral on social media.
In the clips, the PAS Pasir Puteh MP was alleged to have made undesirable remarks concerning Prophet Muhammad’s companions before they embraced Islam, including Abu Bakr, Umar al-Khattab, Uthman Affan and Ali Abi Talib.
The remarks drew criticism from various quarters with several police reports lodged nationwide.

“Firdaus Wong, Zamri Vinoth, Ridhuan Tee, Tamim Dahri have unexpectedly remain silent when the Prophet’s companions were vilified,” penned apolitical Kami Viral in a Facebook post. “Apparently, all these while they’ve been playacting.”
This was when one commenter made a rather sharp observation by implying that should such statement have emanated from a DAP leader, the trio would have been producing retaliatory content “for 100 days and 100 nights .”

Another pointed to how hypocritical the trio were by having made “incessant noises about temples” yet were muted when Prophet Muhammad’s companions got insulted.

A seemingly Madani backer added: “Its true the trio are indulging in theatrics for whenever there’s an issue related to the Madani government or PMX, they shall instantly condemn”.

As it is, the Madani Cabinet has yesterday (May 13) strongly condemned Nik Zawawi’s statement while deeming it deemed as completely unacceptable, according to government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
On this note, the Cabinet has left it to the authorities, including the police and religious authorities, to investigate the matter.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the matter remains under police attention and is still at an early stage of investigation.
PAS has apparently played down the matter as an “internal affair” while Nik Zawawi who at first stood by his statement has issued an apology yesterday (May 13) in the wake of intense public pressure.
“The original purpose of my statement was only to explain and emphasise the greatness of the Islamic message brought by Prophet Muhammad SAW in changing the socio-cultural life of the jahiliah (ignorant) society to a more noble and civilised life,” justified the second term PAS lawmaker.
“I take full responsibility on this matter as my personal oversight and in no way is this matter related to the stance of PAS or its leadership.”
While detractors snubbed Nik Zawawi for his initial arrogance in defending his statement, one pro-Madani commenter cheekily implied that had DAP insulted the Prophet’s companions, “I’m sure today there’ll would be a whole bunch of PAS supporters gathering in front of the DAP office to protest!”

“But the PAS Ulama Council only viewed the matter seriously,” snubbed the SM Aminuddin Baki Kuala Lumpur old pupil.
“There was absolutely no action taken against Nik Zawawi who insulted the Prophet’s companions. This is absolutely crazy for PAS is truly parti AJARAN sesat (deviant teaching party).” – Focus Malaysia
