The Dewan Rakyat has passed amendments to the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 after its third reading with no debate.
No opposition to the bill was heard during the call for voice votes.
This followed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M Kulasegaran’s winding-up speech at the bill’s second reading.
The bill was tabled for its second reading yesterday, which saw debates from 25 MPs.
The MCMC has received more than twice as many deepfake-related complaints in the first half of this year as it did throughout last year, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said.
The commission received 7,967 complaints as of June 15, compared to 3,612 complaints last year, she told the Dewan Rakyat today.
