The Prime Minister’s Department sought to clarify allegations of a new official vehicle for the prime minister - a bulletproof BMW 7 Series sedan.
In a Facebook statement, the department, together with the Ceremonial and International Conference Secretariat Division, said the vehicle is an existing asset owned by the division and is not new.
“The vehicle is provided to meet the country’s official requirements, particularly for use by heads of state and heads of government holding the rank of president or prime minister, during official visits to Malaysia, in accordance with international protocol and security requirements.
“For this purpose, the vehicle is required to meet security specifications designed to withstand high-calibre ballistic threats, explosions, as well as modern security risks, including drone threats,” the statement read.
The department said the vehicle had been selected for the prime minister’s temporary use on the advice and assessment of the police, adding that the official vehicle bestowed on the prime minister by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is undergoing maintenance.
The Economy Ministry-linked Yayasan Peneraju is now looking for a new chief executive to replace Ibrahim Sani, who quit last week and joined Parti Bersama Malaysia.
Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Nasir announced an open interview via X yesterday. Ibrahim was previously appointed to the role the same way, when Rafizi Ramli was the minister.
“Applications for the position of CEO of Yayasan Peneraju are once again open, and as before, all qualified candidates are invited to apply,” Akmal said.
He said the CEO search is being conducted openly to help the government attract the best talent. - Mkini
