Five appointed to MACC advisory board, special corruption committees

KUALA LUMPUR: Five people have been appointed to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) and Special Committee on Corruption (SCC) for the 2026-2029 term.

In a statement today, MACC said the appointments were made by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in accordance with Section 14 of the MACC Act 2009.

The appointments are for a three-year term, effective from June 3.

MACC said the appointees comprised members of the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat from both the government and opposition, as well as professionals.

Enforcement, Leadership and Management University vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Mohd Kassim Noor Mohamed was appointed ACAB deputy chairman.

Kuala Pilah member of parliament Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan and Batang Lupar MP Mohd Shafizan Kepli were appointed SCC deputy chairmen.

Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan was appointed a SCC member, while Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman was reappointed as a member for a second term.

MACC said the letters of appointment were presented by Anwar and witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman in Parliament today.

It said ACAB and SCC are two of five independent oversight bodies established under the MACC Act 2009 to ensure the commission's effectiveness, transparency and accountability.

MACC said ACAB advises on corruption-related issues, policies and strategies, and reviews proposals to ensure the commission operates efficiently.

It also reviews MACC's resource needs and annual report before submission to SCC.

SCC, meanwhile, advises the prime minister on corruption issues, examines MACC's annual report and reviews ACAB's comments on the commission's performance. - FMT
