Lawyer says undang's eviction notice 'invalid', student group urges mental health reforms

Negeri Sembilan

  • The 24-hour directive to vacate the Balai Undang Rembau, issued to undang Abdul Rahim Yassin is invalid and contrary to custom and the law, his lawyer said.

In a statement yesterday, Rahim's counsel Emirul Sarifudin Nor Azmi said the directive from the Rembau district officer appears to be an attempt to deny the rights and prerogatives of the lawful and duly constituted Council of Customary Chiefs of Luak Rembau.

Emirul said the notice also fails to state the legal provision the district officer relied upon when issuing the eviction directive; therefore, it is not a statutory notice.

Rahim also claimed the district officer failed to produce the requested legal documents for the move.

  • The Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) has called for more comprehensive action to address the mental health crisis among students following a recent school stabbing in Banting.

GPMS proposed regular mental health screening and assessment systems in all educational institutions to identify students at risk at an early stage.

The group also called for stronger peer mentoring systems and dedicated counselling referral pathways, with trained peer mentors helping to identify students in distress and a fast-track mechanism providing direct access to professional psychological support.  - Mkini
