Rais, how much did we pay for Merdeka logo?

YOURSAY 'Tell us who designed the logo and if any payment was made. If payment was made, the rakyat want their money back.'

Gov't scraps controversial Merdeka logo

your sayKairos: Whatever that has occurred with the 55thMerdeka logo and the theme is a sad reflection of the dire state that the present government is in at the moment.

It is totally devoid of ideas and creativity and if anything, it is rehashing the same issues and singing the same tune like an old record player stuck in the groove. It does things and make decisions without sufficient thought and is totally bankrupt of strategies to lead and to govern.

The leadership is corrupt and self-seeking with little concern for the welfare of the rakyat. They are a laughing stock to the international community in the areas of meritocracy and fair governance.

The electoral process is flawed and the Attorney-General's Chambers is so pro-BN that it has lost all respect. How can anyone in their right mind think of voting them back in again for another five years?

Doc: I wonder what the cost was to come up with the National Day logo. In true Umno fashion, I bet it will run into millions.

2zzzxxx: The Umno ‘racist' government loves to create trouble for itself. In the first place, why didn't the government come up with a logo, theme and song that all the rakyat can identify with?

No, it had to play dirty even with our national day celebrations. It has to use the national day to campaign for the coming elections which this racist government is going to lose big time.

KSD: Information, Communications, and Culture Minister Rais Yatim, tell us who designed that logo and if any payment was made. If payment was made, the rakyat want their money back. Competence, accountability and transparency!

Clever Voter: There is a big difference between public interest and political propaganda. This shameless government thinks the public is either gullible or stupid. Those days are over.

Anonymous #19098644: It is Rais who has politicised and allowed the issue of the Merdeka logo to get blown out of proportion. It is best that we revert back to the 1Malaysia logo, which is more apolitical.

All parties can't argue with the need for the country to be united as one Malaysia.

Ipoh2: Replacing it with the 1Malaysia logo is just as unacceptable because BN has been using it as their political and propaganda tool.

The Merdeka logo should be neutral, and it should show the aspirations of the people and inspire all Malaysians. The 1Malaysia logo is not acceptable.

Dood: Is Rais stupid or something? People are criticising the logo because of its political connotations and connections to Umno-BN, when the Merdeka logo should be apolitical and inclusive.

Yet now he said the government is scrapping the logo and using only the 1Malaysia logo... which everyone knows is an Umno-BN logo.

Haveacuppa: I have no interest in Merdeka celebrations as long as BN is the government. It is all about BN this and BN that. The spirit of Merdeka has long been forgotten, especially with BN using it as a propaganda tool to ensure their own survival.

Ren Ai: Was there no one in the Information Ministry to stand up to Rais when he started penning the lyrics? Rais' antics will cost BN big.

Design professionals find Merdeka logo appalling

Odin: Rais' statement clearly reveals that he is totally ill-qualified to decide on important things such as the logo.

That it was not plagiarised is not the issue. It is simply amateurish, illustrates very poor design skill and hardly any knowledge of basic graphic design.

If the logo is for Umno, most of us, if any at all, would not bother, but it is not. It is for Malaysia; and as it is, it is a very poor reflection of Malaysia's graphic designers.

Albert Lim: This is not even a logo, it is just a string of words put together, no thought given to it. By the way, you never put five typefaces in five different sizes and call it a logo. In my trade, we call it a dog's breakfast, not a logo.

Rais says it's an original - of course it is, you don't find this kind of rubbish to copy.

Karma: Open Powerpoint, use copy and paste, and apply mono corsiva, times roman or arial font, plus a bit of Photoshop masking. It's a no brainer!

Muak; How much exactly did the taxpayers have to pay for this disaster of a design? The idiots who had approved it must be sacked. Malaysians can do better than this.

Survivor: There is nothing wrong with the logo. It is just a real depiction and reflection of the traits of Umnoputra in its entirety. It is Umno's Merdeka Day, which has nothing to do with Malaysia's Merdeka Day.

Little Hantu: "Janji sudah ditepati, masanya untuk balas budi" (Promises fulfilled, time for gratitude) equals, "I have helped you, now it's your turn to help me".

Abasir: This abomination of a logo is a true and accurate reflection of that vile vulgarity known as Umno.

It should serve to remind all Malaysians that the country really needs independence - to be free from the source of all that is wrong with this country.

Dumb&Deaf: Rais Yatim probably got his Indonesian maid to do the design and ghostwrite the theme song lyrics. - Malaysiakini
