Suaram not registered with us, says CCM
Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), an outfit linked to Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd, was not registered under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 or the Companies Act 1965, said the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM).
CCM chief executive officer Mohd Naim Daruwish said on the other hand, Suara Inisiatif was set up as a corporation on Oct 24, 2001 with two registered directors, namely Kua Kia Soong and Yeoh Seng Gua.
He said based on its profile, Suara Inisiatif’s nature of business was organising human rights campaigns and related activities.
Kua and Yeoh are also the shareholders of the company which was set up with a RM2 paid-up capital, Mohd Naim said in a statement.
It said CCM had served a notice under the Companies Act 1965 dated July 5 to the company, requiring it to submit a statement of accounts and supporting documents for the last four years for routine inspection.
“This is to ensure that the company complies with accounting standards applicable to its category of companies,” he said, adding that CCM was reviewing all documents submitted by Suara Inisiatif one week ago.
He said as a corporate regulatory authority, CCM would conduct routine inspection on companies if there were complaints or issues emanated.
