The gunman holed up in Lahad Datu in Sabah for more than a week, claiming their ancestral right over the region. are being led by Raja Muda Agbimiddin Kiram thebrother of the Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram in what has been described by the President of Philippines as being staged to disrupt the peace negotiations between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
This is what happens when we get involved in business that is not ours, the Malaysian government during the days of Tun Mustapha had got involved together with Libya's Gadaffi in the Moro problem. All the negotiations, all the secret dealings with the Moro rebels, the illegal Identity cards issued by Mahathir and the rest have led to this situation.
What was a Philippino situation should have been left to the Philippines to resolve by themselves we should have not courted this trouble, now with two submarines at our disposal, billions of ringgit of weapons we seem to be afraid, this government is only happy beating up itss own people and treating them like enemies, whilst it pacifies invaders..
The Philippine star reports that President now believes this is an attempt to sabotage the peace deal between the Philippine government and the Moro rebels of Southern Philippines brokered by the Malaysian Government for which the Malaysian Government took all the credit. Is the deal souring??
Latest reports indicate that the Philippines navy is to send a frigate to be stationed just outside Lahad Datu and whether it will be in Malaysian or Philippine waters has not been revealed, it is hoped the authorities will be able to coax thse gunmen to give up their illegal and unwarranted action.
Philippine observers have been indicating that this incursion was to wage a guerrilla war in Sabah, taking a cue from the successful guerrilla war that Fidel Castro waged in Cuba against the forces of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista, hoping the Sabahans of Tasug origin would join them.
Most f Sabah's illegal's are from the Tasug's, these people come from islands only an hour away from Sabah and some of them could have relatives amongst these "soldiers of the Royal Sulu Army."
Others feel that the Sultan is trying to attract international attention, which has met with some degree of success, Al Jazeera, CNN and even BBC have carried the news, the Sultan has made a plea to the US, an many people in the Philippines are now beginning to believe that this case can be taken to the International Court of Justice or the bargaining table.
The Philippine government has called for a peaceful solution to the standoff. Both sides are now in a flurry of negotiations with the leaders of the, "Royal Sulu Army" who refuse to leave, saying that they should not be expelled as Sabah is part of the Sultanate of Sulu.
The Malaysian government of najib Tun Razak ahs already unwittingly gone to the bargaining table by negotiating with these insurgents, they have begun the ball rolling, they have no clue what dangerous precedent they have set.
The Philippine's claim to Sabah was dropped in 1976 by president Ferdinand Marcos at the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, there should be no more talk of rights in Sabah there can be none, the government shoudl have bombed these intruders out of Malaysian territory and not "negotiate."
These "negotiations" will have adverse effects on what will follow in the region in the future, this kind of behaviour on the part of the Malaysian Government is only going to encourage continued incursions of this kind and that can be extremely dangerous.
