PPP denies members ambushed M'sian Namban HQ
The People's Progressive Party (PPP) has today denied allegations by Malaysian Nanban that the Tamil daily's headquarters at Jalan Ipoh had been ambushed by the party's members over an alleged defamatory article.
PPP Youth chief Harridz Mohan said that the party members and president M Kayveas went to the headquarters only after being invited by the managing director ofMalaysian Nanban, Shafee Zaman Sikandar Batcha, to clarify an article which had appeared in the daily's edition on Wednesday.
The article had allegedly accused PPP - which is a BN component party - of distributing free food packs to the needy, and questioned whether such a move would favour BN in attracting the Indian community’s votes.
Harridz has also denied that none of the members had threatened and caused injuries to the daily's reporter LK Raj, as claimed by the newspaper.
He explained that the distribution of free food under the party's 'LET'S FEED' (Food For Needy) programme which began last year, where vegetarian food was distributed to the needy regardless of race, religion and citizenship throughout the country.
"The centre is based in Taman Sentosa, Klang which is under the Kota Raja constituency. If we were politically motivated, we would have placed the centre at the Batu constituency, which is our targeted seat to contest, but we never did that because it is solely based on our humanitarian efforts," he said.
As a newspaper, each organisation has the right to write on any issue, but at the same time, they should be upholding their ethics so as not to defame other people's reputation blindly without solid evidence, he added.
