Ibrahim Ali: Why Chinese sacrificed in Kajang?

A vocal proponent of Malay rights, controversial politician Ibrahim Ali today stuck his neck out for the Chinese by asking why they have been made “tools” in the Kajang by-election.

Ibrahim, in a statement issued in his personal capacity and not as Perkasa president, also declared support for MCA's likely candidate, Chew Mei Fun.

According to the former Pasir Mas MP, a Chinese candidate was “used” by PKR to trigger the by-election to solve the party's internal issue when there are other Malay candidates who could have stepped forward.

“The question is, why was (Kajang incumbent) Lee Chin Cheh the one chosen to resign (to pave way for a by-election)? Why not Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson Azmin Ali?

“Why sacrifice the Chinese as tools? Azmin (right) is also a state assemblyperson and he is also (PKR de facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim's strongman. Why didn't he make the sacrifice?” Ibrahim asked.

He said that if PKR truly wanted to replace state Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, then they could have just nominated Azmin - who is also PKR deputy president - instead of triggering a by-election to pave way for Anwar to enter the assembly.

'Proud of Chew's exemplary morals'

Meanwhile, Ibrahim pledged support for MCA's likely candidate Chew as she has “exemplary morals compared to Anwar”, having resigned as deputy minister when then MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek was implicated in a sex scandal.

“I am personally proud of Chew and I believe the Chinese voters in Kajng are also proud of her, as she is morally clean and has leadership qualities.

“May God show the truth in the coming by-election,” he said.

Although BN has yet to make an announcement, the Sun reported today that MCA has only submitted Chew's (right) name for the BN chairperson's consideration as candidate for the March 23 polls.

BN had previously announced that MCA will contest the seat against PKR's Anwar.

Others who have announced that they will join the fray include BN senator S Nallakarupan, former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim, anti-Anwar activist Yuktes Vijay, and dangdut singer Herman Tino.

In addition, NewGen Party - a party led by former PKR leader S Gobikrishnan - is due to announce the name of its candidate today.
