KUALA LUMPUR - PKR has formally drafted its letter to the Selangor Sultan, mooting just one name for the post of state mentri besar and an explanation, party secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
Saifuddin told The Star, however, that the letter has yet to receive the party leadership’s approval.
“Tuanku has asked for names of candidates and not for an explanation but we will include in the letter some related facts on the issue.
“There might be changes to the contents, but once approved, I will make arrangements for the letter to be sent to the palace,” the party’s secretary-general told The Star.
Last week, the Sultan demanded that each of Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) three parties submit more than two names, which can overlap, for the MB post, by Wednesday.
PKR has been adamant in submitting its sole candidate, president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, while PAS has said it will go according to the Sultan’s request, and submit the party’s number two, Azmin Ali’s name as well.
PKR treasurer-general William Leong also told The Star that the decision to submit only one name for the top post was in accordance with past practice.
“The palace had asked for a few names (after the last general election) but we only sent in one name and it was accepted,” he said. -Malay Mail
