Dr. Roland Chia comes out from solitude to re-dedicate himself to the people of Inanam.
KOTA KINABALU: Inanam Assemblyman Dr. Roland Chia, who tweeted his intention to resign from the seat on health grounds not so long ago, has changed his mind on the matter and has now decided to remain in the seat and with the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Chia made his intention clear in a whatsapp posting minutes ago in Political Forum Sabah.
“I will try my utmost best to meet the expectations of my people in Inanam whilst beseeching their forebearance,” he said in the posting.
He explained that he had initially expressed his intention to resign from the seat because he was worried that he may not be able to serve the constituents of Inanam due to his “medical condition”.
“As my illness will continue as a thorn in my flesh, I weighed my options with a heavy heart,” he said. “It would be very unfair to my people in Inanam if I am unable to give them my best efforts.”
During the last one week, he continued, he had been in consultation with family members, friends and supporters. “During my time of solitude, I had the opportunity to consider the various input and suggestions from all quarters.”
He remained in close communication with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, PKR President Dr. Wan Azizah, her Deputy and Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali and grassroots members, ”discussing the matters concerning my health and well being”.
“The response from all quarters has been very understanding and positive,” he disclosed. “They have exhorted me to hang on and to soldier on in Inanam.
Together with family, he said that he “takes this opportunity to thank all for their encouragement and support during this time of need”.
“We appreciate if you would continue to remember us in your prayers in the times to come,” he said. We hereby wish you all a Blessed Christmas and Joyous New Year in 2015.”
He reiterated that he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, concern, advice and support, “over the state of my health”, from family, friends, PKR party leadership, political comrades, grassroot supporters , churches and the community, and “last but not least the constituents of Inanam”.
