The police should book the culprits under the Sedition Act for inciting the public to cause physical harm, says party vice-president.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang MCA has condemned hate-mongers who distributed flyers bearing threats of violence which were reportedly found in Bukit Dumbar and Gelugor here, and at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Its chairman, Chew Mei Fun, wants the police to bring the culprits to book under the Sedition Act for inciting the public to cause physical harm and attempting to turn the Bersih 4.0 rally into a racial conflict.
The words ‘Cina turun Bersih, sedialah bermandi darah’ (Get ready to bathe in blood if the Chinese come for the Bersih rally) are printed on the posters.
Chew said the culprits should also be investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 and Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015.
“The police must use CCTVs (closed-circuit television cameras) recordings, DNA samples or any other form of investigation to nail the offenders and printers (of the flyers),” she said in a statement here today.
Earlier, Chew, who is also women, family and community development deputy minister, advised MCA members not to participate or get involved in the rally.
“MCA does not encourage its members to participate in the Bersih 4 rally,” she told reporters after launching the state-level Small and Medium Industry Award here today.
In GEORGETOWN, Penang police had taken down several of the flyers in several areas in Timur Laut.
Timur Laut district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the posters were put up mostly on signboards and business premises in Bukit Dumbar area.
“Police received complaints from the public about the posters this morning and further investigation is being done under Section 4(1)(a) of the SeditionAct 1948,” he told Bernama when contacted.
Mior Faridalatrash said the police would also look into the closed-circuit television camera footage in the area to identify the individuals involved in putting up the posters.
