Anina no longer in Umno, says Bung Mokhtar

The Umno Supreme Council member says her dismissal is automatic.

PETALING JAYA: Anina Saaduddin has lost her Umno membership because her action of suing Prime Minister Najib Razak violates the party’s constitution, according to Umno Supreme Council member Bung Mokhtar Radin.

“She is sacked from the party automatically,” Bung told FMT today. “Our constitution is clear. No member can take a party issue to court.”

Bung was referring to Article 20.7 of the Umno constitution, which was introduced when the original Umno became Umno Baru in 1987, following a suit brought by 11 members. The court declared that the old Umno was an illegal party.

Anina’s suit is aimed at forcing Najib to account for the RM2.6 billion deposited into his personal bank accounts.

Bung advised Umno members to use “proper channels” to criticise Umno.

“It isn’t nice to take party issues into the open,” he said. “It gives our political enemies an opportunity to destroy our party.”
