Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah is leading thousands of protesters, who were gathered at Central Market in the city centre, towards Dataran Merdeka, the focal point of the Bersih 4 rally today.

Maria, acccompanied by Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) secretary Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and other civil society leaders, had earlier given speeches outside Central Market before starting their walk.

Police seal off the road at Leboh Pasar Besar.Other prominent opposition leaders, including Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and Seremban MP Anthony Loke have already arrived at the various meeting points.

Former Bersih chairman Datuk S. Ambiga Sreenevasan, meanwhile, is at Nu Sentral in Brickfields.

Since this morning, hundreds of policemen have taken up positions in areas surrounding Dataran Merdeka, urging the crowd to keep away from the historic square.

The organisers themselves have urged rally goers to stay clear of Dataran Merdeka.

Crowd near Dataran Maybank in Pudu.An estimated 30,000 people, many dressed in yellow, have begun flooding the city centre despite thinly-veiled threats of a state of emergency and Putrajaya’s declaration that the event is illegal.

Road blocks have also been set up along major roads heading towards Kuala Lumpur, including at the North Klang Valley Expressway before the Subang exit, the Kesas highway in front of Proton, the Batu Caves roundabout and Jalan Sungei Besi.

The rallygoers will assemble at Dataran Maybank in Pudu, Pasar Seni (Central Market), the National Mosque, Sogo departmental store and Brickfields.

The Bersih 4 rally is simultaneously held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and in Kuching, Sarawak. It will also be held at 70 cities worldwide. – August 29, 2015.
