Backbenchers hit back that the Opposition had always been fond of using rumours as a weapon to put Barisan Nasional in a bad light.
KUALA LIMPUR: PAS MP for Pasir Puteh Dr Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad has claimed he has information from experts that the RM2.6 billion fund had purportedly “come” from Malaysia before being taken out of the country.
Dr Nik Mazian’s allegations made some backbenchers, including Othman Aziz (BN-Jerlun) and Noh Omar (BN-Tanjong Karang) to stand up and decry that the opposition had always been fond of stooping to using rumours as a weapon to put Barisan Nasional (BN) in a bad light.
When debating the Supply Bill 2016, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (BN-Baling) described the opposition members’ intransigence to continue sensationalising the issue as being “more fiction than fact.”
“From the first day of the sitting until today, the opposition is still talking about 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion fund. What is the connection between Budget 2016 and 1MDB with the RM2.6 billion fund? The money was (RM2.6 billion) a contribution. Do not be envious. It’s not even the people’s money,” he said.
Azeez’s statement provoked Dr Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad (PAS-Pasir Puteh) to intervene claiming that the sum had purportedly “come” from Malaysia before being taken out of the country.
On the issue of 1MDB, Azeez asked the people not to listen to the lies of the Opposition and wait for the clarification by Prime Minister Najib Razak who was committed to resolve the issue later this year.
“Not to boast. But whenever disasters such as floods strike it is the government which extends aid first providing food and essential necessities to the people and visiting them. There is no sign of the Opposition.
“But in Parliament they (the Opposition) loudly scream BN has failed!” said Azeez who is also Umno Welfare Bureau chairman.
