Never in the history of Umno, except under Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, have divisional chiefs behaved so badly.
KUALA LUMPUR: A political analyst has described news that some 140 to 154 of the 191 Umno divisional chiefs are on accord that sacked Deputy Prime Minister and Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin be stripped of his party membership as a “rubbish idea” that should be thrown in the rubbish bin by the Supreme Council. “Never in the history of Umno, except under Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, have divisional chiefs behaved so badly.”
It’s not the work of the divisional chiefs to suggest who should be sacked or otherwise, said the analyst. “It’s up to the Supreme Council to decide on the matter free of interference.”
Those who want to get into the business of sacking people, added Shahbudin Husin, should get themselves elected to the Supreme Council. “No doubt, a divisional chairmanship is an important post which brings with it many perks and a share of the spoils of office but being a divisional chairman isn’t everything.”
The excuse is that Muhyiddin continues to be critical of the 1MDB scandal, of the Najib Administration, and Sosma, among others, gathered Shahbudin. “This is part of moves to remove Muhyiddin before he can officiate at the annual meetings of Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri this December.”
Apparently, he said, the “decision” by the divisional chiefs would be conveyed to Najib to be brought up at the next Supreme Council meeting. “These people want to convince Najib that he has majority support in the party.”
The “accord” purportedly reached by the divisional chiefs, apparently on Telegram, also includes action against four other Umno members i.e. sacked Federal Minister and Umno Vice-President Shafie Apdal, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Junid, noted Shahbudin. “This is not an accord but a plot, even a conspiracy, among divisional chiefs to get rid of Muhyiddin. Are decisions now being made via Telegram?”
