KUALA LUMPUR: MIC leaders today slammed People’s Progressive Party (myPPP) president, M Kayveas following his proclamation of support for former MIC president G Palanivel instead of current president Dr S Subramaniam.
Former myPPP supreme council member T Murugiah said his former chief was always picking fights with other component parties.
“When I took on Kayveas, no one in MIC interfered,” he said prior to a press conference today.
“Kayveas should realise that Prime Minister Najib Razak has acknowledged Subramaniam as the president of MIC,” he said, adding that Kayveas should respect Najib’s efforts to strengthen Barisan Nasional component parties.
Murugiah described Kayveas as a crab who was teaching others to walk straight, in an apparent reference to the latter’s comments that Palanivel’s ouster was illegal.
He said in myPPP there were no branch or division elections unlike the MIC.
MIC youth chief Sivarraajh Chandran also took Kayveas to task for supporting Palanivel and said, “These people realise that MIC is gaining momentum under its new leadership, maybe they feel threatened.
He said those outside MIC supporting Palanivel were no longer relevant and should not interfere in MIC’s affairs.
“Don’t mess around with MIC,” he said.
Yesterday, four Indian-based or Indian-majority organisations, namely myPPP, Indian Progressive Front (IPF), Makkal Sakti and Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Maicci) reportedly declared their support for Palanivel.
The group called for Palanivel to be reinstated as the president of MIC, with Kayveas saying Subramaniam’s move to oust Palanivel was “illegal” and that the group did not recognise Subramaniam as MIC president.
