Harapan holds seat talks without 'unprepared' Bersatu

Pakatan Harapan has conducted its first round of seat negotiation in the absence of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as the latter has yet to identify the seats it wants to contest.
"(They have) yet to do their homework or research on the seats they are going to contest," said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.
He said Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir and vice-president Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman (former Election Commission chief) were supposed to join the meeting as planned.
"But in the last communication with Mukhriz, he told me that Bersatu needs more time to identify the seats, and that had been entrusted to Abdul Rashid," he said.
He understood that Bersatu, being a new party, needed more time in assessing its ability in every state as both PKR and Amanah had undergone the same pain in the early day for their formation.
Despite this, he said Harapan decided to continue with the seat negotiation among the parties which had done their homework and have achieved some progress.
He believed Bersatu would have no problem in joining Harapan in the second round of seat negotiations.
He also noted there was a "minima" overlapping of seat between Harapan.
The opposition has agreed on the parameter and basis for each party to claim the seats for the next general election, Saifuddin said.
When asked about the seats allocation in Selangor, he said," We have a formula, one that we cannot disclose."
Harapan and Bersatu formed political ties last December and agreed to establish joint technical committee to discuss on seat negotiation and manifesto.

The committee on seat negotiation comprised Mukhriz, Abdul Rashid from Bersatu, Saifuddin from PKR, Anthony Loke from DAP and Hatta Ramli from Amanah.
The meeting today did not involve PAS, which was adamant not to cooperate with any parties that were keeping ties with both DAP and Amanah.
PAS, the former Pakatan Rakyat ally, would decide during its coming muktamar on its ties with PKR.
Malaysiakini has texted Mukhriz and is awaiting his comment.- Mkini
