Police: Jamal arrested for alleged gang robbery

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos and nine others have been arrested by police over alleged gang robbery.

Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat said this was in relation to a raid Jamal conducted on what he claimed to be gambling dens in Taman Kosas on Dec 29.

"These places were licensed as family entertainment outlets, they had permits from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), but his claims that they were gambling dens are another matter.

"We received several reports that some people had lost their belongings during these raids, so that's what we are investigating," Fadzil told Malaysiakini.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.

Those convicted under Section 395 can be jailed up to 20 years, and are liable to being whipped.
