Two people were killed and another was seriously injured when an express bus skidded and landed on its side at Km 422.5 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) today.
The incident occurred about 5 am when the express bus, with 24 passengers and two drivers, was on its way from Kangar, Perlis, to Johor Bahru.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt R Supramaniam said the two victims killed in the incident were the bus driver, identified as M Arasu, 47, and an Indonesian passenger, Masenah, 46.
Their bodies were taken to the Forensic Department of Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for further action, he said in a statement.
Supramaniam said another passenger, Fadhilah Khodip, was seriously injured and sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
He said initial investigations found that the bus driver had three previous records for offences under the Road Transport Act, including speeding.
It was learnt that other passengers in the bus were not injured and they continued their journey in a replacement bus to Johor Bahru.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Mohd Sani Harul, said 15 firemen went to the scene after receiving a call at about 5 am and arrived there about half-an-hour later.
