Stay off politics in GE14, Johor Sultan tells local govt heads

Sultan Ibrahim says they must remain neutral, and remain focused on effective administration and enforcement.
sltanjohor4_1PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Johor has told mayors and presidents of local authorities in the state not to get involved in politics in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).
In a posting on his official Facebook page today, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar reminded them that as civil servants they were bound by their oath of office to remain neutral and not take sides in the polls.
He said their fundamental duty and responsibility was to spearhead development in their respective cities, municipalities and district councils.
“Do not forget that you are all civil servants. You must focus on effective administration and enforcement.
“Don’t get involved in politics,” he was quoted as saying during a meeting with local authority chiefs at Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru today.
Sultan Ibrahim also said it was incumbent on them to not only bring progress and development, but also resolve social problems in their areas of jurisdiction.
“I expect nothing less than full commitment and dedication in the discharge of your duties and responsibilities, without fear or favour of any parties.
“It is also your job to clean and beautify your towns with good town planning and landscaping.
“Put the interests of the rakyat first with effective services and facilities.”
He also ordered them to submit plans for the cleanliness and beautification of their towns for his personal scrutiny and perusal.
The last possible date for GE14 is Aug 24, that is 60 days from June 24, which is the date when Parliament automatically dissolves after having completed a five-year term. -FMT
