KUALA LUMPUR – Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz claimed that opposition parties are running out of ideas with their criticism against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s diet.
Nazri said when the opposition have nothing to do, they would look for all sorts of things to question or criticise, but added that he hoped they would not make an issue over what kind of underwear the prime minister wears.
He was responding to accusations from the opposition that Najib was out of touch with the plight of the people after the prime minister revealed that he substituted rice with quinoa in his diet.
DAP leader Lim Kit Siang said that a 250g bag of organic quinoa at Tesco costs around RM14.80, which is far more expensive than rice.
Nazri explained that there was no harm in Najib opting to eat quinoa instead of rice for health reasons.
“Rice has a higher sugar content and it can cause diabetes so I do not see what is wrong in the prime minister opting to consume a more expensive grain just to be healthy,” he said during a press conference.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office has also clarified that Najib does not solely rely on quinoa for his daily nutrition, adding that it was part of his dietary regime recommended by doctors.
