SUBANG JAYA: The joint management bodies (JMBs) for the OneCity@USJ 25 complex held a press conference, stating that the early Tuesday (Nov 27) morning attack on the building by rioters was one of mistaken identity.
The building was not owned by MCT Berhad or it's subsidiary, One City Development Sdn Bhd said The Square@OneCity JMB's chairman Chong Li Loh, serving as spokesman for the building's 939 individual owners.
He claimed that One City and MCT were just tenants at the building.
The One City complex's owners are grouped into JMBs for the Skypark (MCT Tower), The Place and The Square.
Following an early morning attack on the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple by masked and armed thugs on Monday (Nov 26), a second group of rioters had gathered and marched to MCT Tower, part of the One City development on early Tuesday morning (Nov 27).
Aside from trashing up the premises, the second group of rioters also burnt an MPV, a van and other vehicles.
"All properties, including the office tower and units in One City, USJ, are individually owned and managed by three JMBs, per the Strata Titlea Act 2013," Chong said.
He added that the rioters might have mistakenly thought that the building was owned by One City Development Sdn Bhd or it's parent company.
"They are just tenants, and as for 'MCT Tower', the name is there, as they are tenants and it's part of their naming rights," Chong said.
When asked about the cost of the damages, Chong said it was extensive, and that the individual owners would have to bear the cost of repairs.
He added that the owners' consultants were assessing damages and would come up with a figure soon.
As of this evening (Nov 29), the place was still heavily patrolled and guarded by police, including personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit. - Star
