Temple to stay put for now, Selangor MB assures

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari speaks at a press conference on the Seafield temple issue in Shah Alam.
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari gave his assurance today that the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Seafield, Subang Jaya, would not be relocated until a solution is reached by all relevant parties.
He said discussions between the state government, Indian Pakatan Harapan MPs and temple committee members, among others, would begin by next Tuesday at the latest.
“The state government will find a win-win solution to this matter,” he said in a press conference on the issue at the state government building.
He urged the people to remain calm and cautioned against carrying out further protests at the temple area.
He added that the state government would respect any decision by the courts, and would wait for the hearing on the injunction on the relocation.
This follows the Shah Alam High Court’s decision earlier today, rejecting a bid to postpone the relocation of the temple.
Amirudin also denied media reports that the state government would be buying over the land on which the temple is located, saying this would be premature.
“We have to look at the cost,” he said, adding that the government did not want to set a precedent on the matter.
He added that Islam teaches respect for all. - FMT
