Aide denies minister on leave pending probe on SOP breach

Malaysiakini

There are conflicting claims surrounding the status of Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali, who is being investigated for not adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) after returning from abroad.
Highly-placed sources informed Malaysiakini the PAS leader is on leave pending the outcome of the probe and this was conveyed to the cabinet last week.
"Yes. (He is) on leave. Since last week. Pending investigations," said one source.
However, the minister's aide Muhammad Faudzi Jalil, when contacted yesterday, said it was business as usual for his boss.
"No. The police have yet to say anything (on the probe). He (the minister) just got back from visiting a factory at Bukit Ibam in Muadzam Shah.
"He is working like usual," he told Malaysiakini.
Khairuddin's Facebook also showed that he attended numerous events over the past week and even received a delegation at his office.

The minister landed in the spotlight when it was revealed that he failed to comply with the compulsory 14-day Covid-19 quarantine order following a trip to Turkey in July.
Last month, he dismissed calls for his resignation over the matter, arguing that he had not erred in his duties as a minister.
"I did not do anything wrong concerning my job, it only involved an error over the issue of the SOP.
"I have my own view, but I leave it to the police (to investigate). The Health Ministry had also issued a statement. For me, it (the issue) is solved, although I have my own view," he said.
Khairuddin also apologised for his mistake and vowed to donate his minister's salary from March to August to the country's Covid-19 fund.
The Health Ministry had slapped the minister with a RM1,000 compound for the offence while the police have also recorded his statement.
Contacted yesterday, Federal CID deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the Attorney-General's chambers has yet to revert to the police regarding its investigation papers. - Mkini
