Tawau to have RM100m civil court complex - Takiyuddin

Malaysiakini

The federal government plans to build a new civil court complex in Tawau to replace the current court building which can no longer accommodate the increasing number of cases, said de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said the complex would be built on a 2.02ha site near the proposed Tawau Syariah Court (which will be built next year) and Tawau district police headquarters.
“It involves a cost of about RM100 million, and we are awaiting site approval from the state government.
“The current building was built in 1981, almost 40 years ago. So, we are hoping to build the new court complex within the Third Rolling Plan period, and we expect it to be completed in 2023,” he told reporters after attending a dinner organised by Sabah PAS here last night.
Takiyuddin said the complex would comprise nine trial rooms, of which two are for the High Court, three for the Sessions Court and four for the Magistrate’s Court.
