Massimo factory among 37 closed in Covid-19 precaution

PETALING JAYA: The Massimo bread factory in Klang has suspended operations as part of Covid-19 prevention measures ordered by the Klang Municipal Council.

The bread manufacturer said in an online notice that its operations had been temporarily disrupted because of “precautionary and preventive measures” in line with the council’s requirements.

Some social media users from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor have commented on Massimo Bread’s Facebook page saying they have not been able to find its bread for the past week or so.

Klang municipal president Ahmad Fadzli Tajuddin said 37 factories have been ordered to be closed temporarily for sanitisation and for the workers to be tested for Covid-19, according to a report in The Star.

He said municipal health officers had carried out random checks at 104 factories, and 37 were found to have breached virus prevention rules at the working areas and at the workers’ dormitories.

“We are forced to close the factories for one week in a bid to stop the Covid-19 cases from escalating. Other than that, we want certain factories to improve the living conditions of workers’ dormitories,” he was quoted as saying.

The closure was advised by the Health Department, he said. “If not infections could spiral and the matter could be worse as it might demand a total lockdown.” - FMT
