No plans to make me Kedah MB, Sanusi doing satisfactory job - Takiyuddin

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has denied speculation that he has been mentioned as a candidate to replace the embattled Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as Kedah menteri besar no later than the next general election.

“The issue of changing the Kedah MB did not arise at all; in general, PAS is satisfied with Sanusi's performance.

"Administrative issues will be improved from time to time," he told Malaysiakini.

Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin was born in Sik, Kedah, but has been an elected official in Kelantan since 1999.

The report said Takiyuddin is a suitable PAS leader to replace Sanusi as he is a native of Kedah and his family has a good reputation there.

However, Takiyuddin said he was still an elected representative of Kelantan for now.

He was responding to news portal Malaysia Dateline which quoted a source as saying that the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) would replace Sanusi, no later than the next general election.

The speculation came after Sanusi drew intense criticism over his handling of the cancellation of Thaipusam as a public holiday in Kedah and has been openly feuding with MIC leaders, who partner PAS at the federal level.

MIC president SA Vigneswaran described him as an inexperienced leader who did not have the ability to "socialise" with other races and warned that the party would not support Sanusi in GE15 for the sake of political interests, to which Sanusi replied that PAS has always done well without MIC support.

According to the source, Sanusi has been a source of endless controversy as the Jeneri state assemblyperson had been accused of being anti-Hindu by critics, after the PAS state government demolished two Hindu temples.

He also hit back at critics then, saying they should not be "drunk on the toddy of popularity".

Sanusi denied the remarks were racist but were instead metaphorical and proverbial.

He also faced allegations of buying a Toyota Vellfire car using Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (Sada) funds and entered into a feud with the Penang government over sharing the cost of water rights between the two states. - Mkini
