KUALA LUMPUR: Four people from different home addresses travelling in a car together is not an offence under the current standard operating procedures (SOP), says Senior Minister (security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said there had been a time, during the early stages of SOP implementation, that only two people were allowed to travel in a car.

It was then revised, he added, with the most recent being four or more people allowed to travel in a car, depending on the vehicles capacity.

"We have allowed those living under the Movement Control Order some flexibility after public appeals.

"But nowhere did the government say that the people have to be from the same address," he said during a press conference today.

It is learned that a group of four 17-year-olds who travelled together in a car were stopped at a police roadblock. The car driver was issued RM1,000 compound because the passengers were all from different households.

Ismail Sabri said MCO 2.0 did not restrict car passengers only from the same household.

"As long they follow the seating capacity, it's not SOP violation," he said.

The 10 km radius limit has also been lifted in this current phase of MCO, but inter-district and inter-state travels are still not allowed. - NST
