The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) yesterday carried out a mission to deliver food supplies and basic necessities to the residents of two longhouses in Bintulu, Sarawak.
The RMAF, in a statement, said the aid delivery was following a 14-day movement restriction imposed on the residents of Ugop Ak Umpin and Rh Saba Ak Mergi longhouses to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sarawak, resulting in them running out of food supplies.
The mission was carried out by using an EC 725 AP Helicopter from No. 5 Squadron to deliver 2,880kg of food supplies and basic necessities such as rice, sardines, instant noodles, eggs, sugar, salt, and diesel.
“The operation was led by RMAF pilot, Major Megat Suhaide Megat Daud, assisted by the assistant pilot Captain Shamie Hazim Samsu, Air Quartermaster, PW U I Zakaria Othman, and three engineering personnel.
“They carried out the delivery of food supplies and basic necessities, taken from the collection point at Bintulu Airport and then flown to the longhouse settlement location in the mission starting at 10am, before being fully completed at 1pm involving two sorties,” it said.
The aid mission carried out by the RMAF is a joint venture between the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM), represented by Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing, and the Defence Ministry.
