PETALING JAYA: The sole PPBM elected representative in Terengganu has played down a declaration by the state Umno chief of the party’s intention to contest all their old seats at the next general election.
Rosol Wahid, who is also the deputy domestic trade and consumer affairs minister, said Umno was free to do so.
“We’re not worried. We’ll wait and see,” said Rosol, who won his seat on an Umno ticket at the last elections before switching to PPBM.
The Hulu Terengganu MP said that at the end of the day, the decision on whether to go head-to-head with Umno would be made by the party’s leadership.
“If we have no choice but to face Umno, we will,” he said.
Earlier today, Terengganu Umno chief Ahmad Said said the party was set to contest all seats, both state and parliamentary, at the next general election.
Umno’s coalition partner PAS holds 22 of the 32 seats in the state assembly and six of the eight parliamentary seats.
Ahmad had earlier said that his party would contest in Hulu Terengganu. “Why should we give it to them (PPBM), when the seat was won on an Umno ticket?,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying. - FMT
