Sarawak has recorded a new Covid-19 cluster which was believed to have surfaced from festive visits during the recent Chinese New Year celebration.
The state disaster management committee stated there were 14 confirmed cases in the Jalan Ho Pin cluster.
Those infected were believed to have contracted the virus during festive visits in Samarahan, Serian, and Kuching from Feb 11 to 14.
It said the index case is a 22-year-old woman whose test result returned positive on Feb 18.
"Further investigations and contact tracing yielded 13 more positive cases for a total of 14 confirmed cases in the cluster to date," the committee said in a statement as reported by The Star.
Today, the state reported 219 new cases, bringing its total number of cases to 8,869. Two deaths were reported in Sibu.
The Jalan Ho Pin cluster was found only two days after neighbouring state Sabah recorded its first cluster from the Chinese New Year celebration.
The Mawar cluster involved 15 cases in Sandakan when it was first identified, and is linked to a family reunion dinner held on February 12, reported Malay Mail.
The number of cases has since grown to 19 cases out of 53 people screened, according to Health Ministry figures today. - Mkini
