EMCO lockdown at 18 housing estates in Pahang

9,805 residents in Bandar Muadzam Shah in Rompin are affected by the two-week lockdown.

PETALING JAYA: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said several housing estates in Bandar Muadzam Shah, Rompin, Pahang, will be placed in lockdown for two weeks under the enhanced movement control order starting tomorrow.

This follows a surge in Covid-19 cases in 18 residential areas in the past 10 days.

The lockdown is scheduled to end on Feb 22.

A total of 9,805 residents and 2,178 homes are affected by the lockdown.

The affected housing estates are: Desa Bidara; Desa Keranji; Taman Redan Perdana; Desa Teratai; Desa Melor; Desa Mawar 1; Desa Mawar 2; Desa Jati 1; Desa Jati 2; Desa Anggerik; Desa Kenanga; Desa Tanjung; Desa Dahlia 1; Desa Dahlia 2; Desa Cempaka; Desa Alamanda; Pinggir Pelangi and Desa Semarak.

However, the lockdown will not involve Bandar Satelit.

Ismail said the health ministry had reported 13 positive Covid-19 cases from the Hikmah cluster which involved the congregants of the Al-Muadzam Shah mosque and family members in these residential areas.

The 13 cases, he added, were community transmissions.

The EMCO lockdown will affect 9,805 residents from 2,178 homes. It is scheduled to end on Feb 22.

Ismail said a total of 950 people were arrested last night for flouting movement restrictions; most of those arrested had failed to observe social distancing, travelled to other states without a permit, or failed to wear face masks in public areas.

He said compound notices were issued to 838 people, while 93 were remanded and 19 were released on police bail.

Ismail said 24 undocumented migrants were also arrested.

The human resources ministry said some 7,139 foreign workers were screened last night, with 66 testing positive for Covid-19.

To date, 319,762 foreign workers have been screened since Dec 1, with 6,165 testing positive. - FMT
