KUALA LUMPUR: The Union Of Pos Malaysia Uniformed Staff has expressed its intention to set up an affiliated union for people working in courier services.
The union’s president, Ismail Ali, said there are 109 registered courier companies in Malaysia and most of them do not have a union to represent the employees.
“In accordance with Section 10 of the Trade Unions Act, UPUS will arrange to have the employees in the postal delivery as well as courier services to be represented by unions at their workplaces.
“It is hoped that all employers will support this intention of UPUS to help these workers to benefit from justice in terms of human rights,” he said in a statement today.
UPUS also expressed regret over the plight of courier workers at a company who went on strike following a cut in their commission, as was viralled on social media recently.
Yesterday, the J&T Express courier company made a public apology over the actions of some workers at a sorting hub in Ipoh who were seen in a video clip to be flinging customers’ parcels in a protest over their payments. - FMT
